Greetings and Welcome
UPDATES
UPDATE- MAR 15, 2018
IF you've been dropping by and finding a dearth of new reviews, well.... they've been going on and up at the new site for Berning Away.
Let's just say that while this weekly site served its purpose, I found it lacking in other areas where building the reviews were concerned. So after a few years here, I decided to try again.
Do hop on over and check it out.
Blue skies, y'all!

Finally giving the site a new look by taking on a new theme, changing the main image (from the panda before). Reviews are still going up, when I actuallyy catch a movie these days, finances permitting.
If you'd like to assist in that, I'm not asking for donations or anything, but purchasing a book (or three), and then letting others know my books are out there form them to purchase as well... that would help a little. It's my way of earning just that little bit extra. You could find them at online bookstores such as Barnes and Noble, Amazon (book 1, book 2, book 3), Book Depository, or even the Google Play Store. I've even set up a website for the books.
Meanwhile, things continue along at the other blog and there's one over at Ello too.
And f you've always been coming around looking for the new reviews, well, I apologise for the lack of regular updates, but thank you so very much for the support.
Blue skies, y'all.

UPDATE - JUL 19, 2016
So, the editing on book 3 is done and while there have been the occasional reviews, they've been going up on the other blog. By the time this is done, I've updated some links to the other reviews and a new one has gone up here as well. There has been a slight ennui in doing the reviews for this side because the ones here were seldom in-depth, in the effort to keep things simple and easy.
Updates are looking to be sporadic moving forwards, but I shall endeavour to keep this site going as bast as I can, in between the other projects I have going on to maintain the financial situation. Being a writer is not financially rewarding as some may imagine it to be. It helps if your books will sell, and that takes marketing. AND in that spirit, do drop on by over here.
Thanks to all who have keeping up over here and for the support.
Blue skies, y'all!!

The updates on posts here have taken quite a dive mainly due to some financial constraints. I only recently started going back to the cinemas, but I have to pick and choose which movies I want to spend my money on. Granted, there was a lot of crap throughout January and February (Yes, Deadpool was awesome, but our version was severely chopped thanks to our censors here).
Going forward, it might be sporadic throughout this year, and hopefully, the financial situation will resolve itself soon. If you'd like to help, please buy my books.
Meanwhile, some catching up to do...

Almost two months of travelling and coming home to some really woeful releases in the cinema has led to quiet times here. In addition, it's the lack of funds along with the increase in prices of tickets. The government here implanted the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and a lot of businesses decided to increase prices to reflect that. It's supposed to be 6% but the feeling is like it's more. Oddly, only a couple of businesses were smart enough to incorporate that 6% into their existing prices and in effect, lowering their original price (in a way) retaining the original pricing to reflect the GST already included.
Add to that some new cinematic 'experiences' - like going 3D wasn't enough - we now had D-Box and Atmos enhanced screen which has pushed ticket prices even higher. Furious 7 in 3D and D-Box tickets were priced around RM35! and the Atmos tickets are expected to reach equally high. IMAX 3D is pricey already that I've decided to pass on 3D movies so far. A lack of steady income being a major factor, but let's just say I am not in favour of inflated ticket prices. One of the main reasons why I don't pay attention to box-office reports. The inflated prices DO NOT reflect the number of tickets sold anymore. Especially when the studios are now demanding a higher percentage back on ticket sales.

Update - Jan 31, 2105
As mentioned, I haven't been to the cinema in about a month now, so there haven't been any reviews. I'm currently on the road and bumming about, and as much as I'd like to drop in on a cinema, I have to be extremely picky because it ain't cheap! Well, unless you live and work and earn a nice income here, then it's cheap, but when you're travelling on a very tight budget, NZD15-NZD18.50 per ticket is not cheap, given how the exchange rate between RM and NZD is getting bigger.
At least there are other cheaper ways to watch movies, like rentals (something dead back home but still okay here) and cable TV in some hostels. I get to catch up on some of the older flicks I had passed over before as they get released on home video or PayTV (equivalent).
Please support my book in the meanwhile. It'll help with getting into the cinemas and continuing with these reviews too! ;)
Book 2 is in the scrutiny edit mode while book 3 is in a standard edit round. So, there's more to come.
Thanks, and Blue Skies!

Update - Dec 20, 2014
There's going to be a change next year, at least, for the first quarter. My access to the cinema is going to be severely limited, so the reviews will take a hit. I've got some plans to compensate for that, but we'll see how it goes. Just a heads-up.

UPDATE- Sep 16, 2014
Hey, I've got a book published! See banner ad above.
It's a work of fiction, not a collection of the movie reviews I've posted here so far. It took a long while to wrestle it into shape for publishing and here we are. It's not available in local bookstores, here in Malaysia, but it's available from online retailers. Click one of the links above there. There are two formats - print and digital. Of course, the digital version is going to be cheaper.
For more inför about the writing or the story, hop on over to the Wordpress blog and browse through the articles there.
Thanks again for taking a chance on me.

Nothing really much happens on this page because this site is mainly for the movie reviews I do (follow the Reviews above), and every now and then, I do wonder if I should update this page. It's just from time to time. Also, with the Summer movies almost upon us, the reviews should be flowing a little more frequently although it easier said and remains to be seen in practice. With more movies opening up, certain cinemas around here are showing movies that other cinemas are not - case in point, Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises and Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel are only showing at one out of five cinemas in Penang. My preferred cinema is getting the shaft in terms of movies being screened. Just FYI, the cinemas don't get to choose what movies to screen.
And Yeh - there's now a new cinema with an IMAX screen (TGV Paragon), although I've yet to check that out, financial standing dictating that. Let's just wait for something truly worthy before heading out that way,So- little update, and thanks for reading and following!!!

If you've been wondering about the nature of the updates lately, it's due to some changes in my personal life.
There's been some work that needs attention and it's taken me away from the cinema a bit. Then again, there also isn't much to catch in these few months as is often the case. The financial situation is also dictating catching shows with a discounted rate, and that usually means catching them later than I used to (opening day). Still, will get the reviews up as I catch up on the movies.
Thanks for sticking around tho.

It's just over a year now when I first started this site, and so far, it's serving its purpose.
The template has remained the same now while the Wordpress blog has undergone several facelifts. Maybe I'll find something else to do with this place later on, but in the meantime, I guess this is it. A place for my movie reviews (just click on the Reviews button above).
So, thanks for sticking around and reading.

I'm beginning to feel like maybe I should have looked around a bit more instead of settling on Weebly.
I've been trying to set up a photo album, but with very little luck on settling on a format I like. Even if I resorted to using a blog page again (like with for the reviews), it might take forever to load as more and more pictures get uploaded.
Granted, they did offer a website, and this is as pure a website as can be. I just miss the apps that Multiply had...

I'm getting timelined on Facebook, so I figured I should get some kind of cover image there...
Using SketchBook Express (it's free), I doodled a quick panda face, and decided I should sync up both of them. Hence the panda face here. At the very least, it's my own little piece.
Hello.
Welcome to the new iteration of "Berning Away" where I will be putting a few things. The site will take some time to find its footing, so please do bear with me here. It will also take some time to figure out how to customise the website and come up with something that won't rely too much on the given themes, although this does look rather nice. I like the pen at the top...
When the other pages come up, do take a look around. I hope you find something interesting to come back again and again. The movie reviews will most likely be updated the most frequently.
There's quite a few things to poke around at, and the site will build up.
So, thank you for coming by and do leave a comment or thought from time to time.
